Canada’s Competition Bureau announced on September 28, 2026 that it is investigating minimum advertised pricing policies in the grocery sector. These policies set the lowest price a retailer may advertise, even when a store is willing to sell for less.
The bureau says it is concerned the restrictions may make discounts harder to find and limit competition, including from discount grocers. It is inviting consumers, retailers, suppliers and others with relevant experience to provide information.
The agency says submissions will support its investigation and its broader examination of the food supply chain. That broader study is a separate policy exercise. The announcement identifies concerns and questions under investigation; it does not establish that any named business broke the law or promise lower grocery bills.
