Halifax police are preparing for Saint Mary’s University’s upcoming homecoming weekend after shutting down 27 unsanctioned parties during Dalhousie’s celebrations, according to Paul Hollingsworth’s September 30 CP24/CTV report. Police also issued 36 tickets under the Liquor Control Act.
Const. Martin Cromwell said officers would increase their presence around Saint Mary’s and speak with students about safety and potential consequences. The report does not establish that similar incidents will happen at Saint Mary’s.
Student association president Liza Zahid encouraged students to celebrate safely and respect their neighbours. Planned on-campus, alcohol-free activities include a football game, a brunch and a family skate.
The Halifax figures are separate from the large homecoming gatherings in Guelph, Ontario, also discussed in the source report.
