Nexus applicants who receive conditional approval on or after April 1, 2027, will have two years to schedule their enrolment interview, the Canada Border Services Agency announced October 1.

The change ends a temporary five-year booking window introduced because of pandemic disruption. CBSA says increased interview capacity now allows a return to the original two-year rule.

Applicants approved before April 1, 2027, have a different deadline: they must schedule their interview within five years of conditional approval or by April 1, 2029, whichever comes first. The relevant date is therefore the applicant’s own conditional approval, not the date of this news report.

The change concerns interview scheduling. Applicants must complete interviews with both Canadian and U.S. border agencies before receiving a Nexus card. CBSA is urging people waiting for an interview to book promptly so their applications do not expire.
