Ontario has issued SeatGeek Canada a $25,000 administrative penalty over alleged violations of its ticket-resale law, CTV News reported on September 16. The ministry said an August 5 inspection led to the August 28 penalty.

The alleged breaches carry separate penalties: $10,000 for resale above the original total purchase price, $10,000 for failing to disclose that price and $5,000 for facilitating resale without proof of the price. The ministry said SeatGeek did not appeal within 15 days and was required to pay within 30 days of receiving the penalty. Payment status was not reported.

Ontario did not identify the tickets or events involved. CTV said SeatGeek had not responded to its request for comment by publication. The company previously said it had warned third-party sellers about the law and sought provincial guidance on compliance.

The law introduced this spring bars Ontario event-ticket resale above the original cost. The reported penalty is administrative enforcement, rather than a criminal conviction.
