PacifiCan announced on Sept. 16, 2026 that it is providing $500,000 to the Island Corridor Foundation to finance feasibility and technical studies on a potential passenger rail connection between Victoria West and Langford. The money comes from the Build Communities Strong Fund Local Impact Stream.

The Capital Regional District is also contributing $523,100 to the feasibility study. The scope identified in the release includes corridor planning, land‑use analysis and engagement with communities and partners.

The foundation is collaborating with the Indigenous-led Reconciliation Corridor Initiative, which involves the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations and local governments. The release notes these studies are intended to inform future decisions; it did not announce any service restart, construction funding or opening date.

The announcement was made in Esquimalt by Secretary of State Stephanie McLean on behalf of Minister Gregor Robertson.
